Ask the Nutritionist - This month's nutrition question
"I'm trying to lose weight and doing so I realized it's hard to eat all the right foods to get the correct amount of fiber, vitamins E, B12 and folic acid. Would CocoaVia® Brand Snacks help me with my dietary goals as well as support heart health?"

— Kim H.
Diamond Bar, CA

"You are absolutely correct. Meeting your nutritional needs while trying to watch your calorie intake can be a challenge but not impossible. Weight loss requires you to burn more calories than you consume. It is influenced by many factors, including portion control, staying well hydrated, having daily physical activity and sensible snacking.

CocoaVia® can certainly fit into a heart healthy diet and may also contribute to the overall intake of certain vitamins and minerals without contributing too many calories. CocoaVia® snacks are a good source of Vitamins B6, B12, C, and E, and an excellent source of Calcium, in a nutritionally responsible portion size of 80-150 calories per serving. They should be consumed in place of higher calories snacks such as candy bars, chips, ice cream, etc., to make it easier for you to reach your daily calorie goal. With respect to fiber, CocoaVia® snacks are not a rich source of that nutrient. The products that include nuts as an ingredient do provide some fiber, but you'll need to get most of your daily requirement from fiber-rich foods such as fruits and vegetables, and certain types of breads and cereals. Your age, and your current health status, will determine how much fiber you actually need on a daily basis. For best results on a weight loss diet it is best to consult a Registered Dietician or other health care professional who can help you develop a plan to meet your specific nutrition needs and lifestyle."
